Cell structure - Plastids - Forms of chloroplasts - Chloroplast and Cell Nucleus in the Conjugate Alga Zygnema
Chloroplast and Cell Nucleus in the Conjugate Alga Zygnema

| Description |
The diatom Zygnema occurs worldwide. It is found in standing freshwater habitats [1] and produces long threads consisting of several thousand cells. Two star-shaped chloroplasts spread through each of the elongated cells. [2]
The plastids are connected to the parietal cytoplasm by delicate filaments. [3]
In cells shortly prior to division the nucleus can be seen clearly lying between the chloroplasts. [4]
The three-dimensional reconstruction from shots taken with the confocal laser microscope allows a view of the complex structure of the chloroplast. [5]
