Cell structure - Plasma membrane - Structure and Dynamics of the Plasma Membrane
Structure and Dynamics of the Plasma Membrane
| Description |
The plasma membrane demarcates the cytoplasm from the external environment. It underlies the multilayered cell wall.
The cell membrane consists of a double layer of phospholipids with their hydrophobic groups facing each other. It is easily deformed and is therefore subject to dynamic modifications.
The lipid molecules are constantly changing their locations. The proteins incorporated in the membrane are also moveable.
