Cell structure - Golgi apparatus - Structure of the Golgi Apparatus
Structure of the Golgi Apparatus

| Description |
The dictyosomes of the Golgi apparatus consist of stacks of flat membrane cisternae. The flat surfaces of the cisternae are oriented perpendicular to the direction of material transport from the ER to the cell membrane. Thus, one can distinguish between the side facing the ER, the cis- or forming-side, and the opposite one, the trans- or maturing side. Proteins and lipids move from one cisterna to the next one in vesicles.
