| Description |
Cells from a tissue culture from Tobacco [1]. Due to the high density of the contents of the cisternae, the ER appears as a dark net in phase contrast microscopy [2]. In negative contrast, the light areas correspond to the lumen of the ER. The lumen forms a continuum. The highly dynamic nature of the ER is expressed by changes of shape, by fusion and by rupture [3].
