| Description |
The oomycete Saprolegnia provides an example of free cell formation in ist sprangia. The cell contents differntiate to form zoospores. They are released when the sporangium is mature [1]. The protoplasm of the young sporangium has many nuclei. It cleaves into many portions of plasma. Naked spores are formed, each with a single nucleus. At the tip of the sporangium a papilla develops. The spores are released [2], as shown now in real time [3].
